The state doesn’t make the nation, the nation makes the state. That’s why liberal interventionism of the post-911 era will never work. I’m all for defense, for stopping actual real terrorist threats, genocides. I oppose idealistic military interventions to promote democracies.
Any time you have a government in power, it’s because a lot of people support that government. If a government is universally despised and has no support, it will fall. And an election, I hate to break it, is not a regime change. Bush, Obama, Trump, Biden – same regime.
