Republicans are the party of eliminating Government and maximizing GDP and business returns. They don’t have much to debate. They disagree on how extreme they should be, maybe free trade, that’s it.
Democrats have not just more racial diversity, but ideological too. You have Democrats that are extreme liberals and then you have Democrats like who are more about the working class. Democrats have to debate what they want Government to do (because otherwise they’d be Republican) and then come up with a Government agenda.
They differ not just in platform but in how they operate as parties. So yes, you can be a conservative Democrat.
