Three things Putin did well (this will become a blog entry).
1) Before Putin under Yeltsin it was cowboy capitalism and a complete failure. While it’s true that Putin no longer is a communist like he was in his older days, he still put a stop to this cowboy capitalism. Most communists in Russia consider western liberalism a greater evil than Putin’s ideology that is a little more tolerant of Christianity than a hardline communist would be.
2) Putin stood against cowboy imperialist moves like the (American) war in Iraq.
3) The Russian birthrate was declining under replacement level just like the White birthrate in America is. Putin undid this.
